1. Fall and Catch

by Peter Bloedel
"Love is what you've been through with somebody." James Thurber

Fall forward put your foot out catch yourself do it all again now
That's how we all learned how to walk
One foot then the other, all my life I think I got it down
Now I don't give it that much thought

Falling catching tripping stumbling through
I just want to fall and catch with you
Your hand in mine two hearts keeping time, babe why not
Let's go on a walk

Step by step together you and me we do it all again now
That's how we both learned how to walk
Fall and catch each other with a hand for one another
Now we don't give it that much thought

Falling catching tripping stumbling through
I just want to fall and catch with you
Your hand in mine two hearts keeping time, babe why not

Keep walking through the dark and the light
We've seen all that with all the miles we've put behind us
The road isn't smooth it seldom has been
But we're together, yes we're together
Your hand in mine two hearts keeping time, babe why not

Fall forward put your foot out catch yourself do it all again now
That's how we all learned how to walk
One foot then the other all my life I think I got it down
Now I don't give it that much thought

Fall forward put your foot out catch yourself do it all again now
That's how we all learned how to walk
One foot then the other all my life I think I got it down
Now I don't give it that much thought

2. Snow Chantey (a.k.a. "Blow It Away")

by Peter Bloedel
A Northern Dream.

A blanket of white has been laid down before me
Blow it all over and out of the way
A fisherman's heart should be out at the lake
Blow it all over and out of the way
I could stay in but the iced water calls me
Blow it all over and out of the way
A snowflake is small, but a billion have weight

The blizzard's drifting white today
Yo ho the ice and snow
Get those augers turnin' round
And blow that snow back off the ground
The blizzard's drifting white today
Yo ho the ice and snow
Gas the engine turn the key
And blow that snow to Waikiki

Blow the snow down boys
Blow the snow down
Every snowflake must pay the price
Put the snow in submission
And we'll go ice fishin'
We'll blow it away
A better life waits on the ice

It's gettin' pert near deep out there
Yo ho the ice and snow
The blower's broke we'll shovel then
We'll shovel 'cuz we're northern men
It's gettin' pert near deep out there
Yo ho the ice and snow
Just to spite the weatherman
We'll shovel with our naked hands

Blow the snow down boys
Blow the snow down
Every snowflake must pay the price
Put the snow in submission
And we'll go ice fishin'
We'll blow it away
A better life waits on the ice

Blow the snow down boys
Every snowflake must pay the price
Put the snow in submission
And we'll go ice fishin'
We'll blow it away
Blow it away
A better life waits

So blow the snow down boys
Blow the snow down
Every snowflake must pay the price
Put the snow in submission
And we'll go ice fishin'
We'll blow it away
Yo ho the ice and snow
A better life waits on the ice

3. Black is the Color

Traditional
This one is for our fans from way back. It's found its way into our set lists from the beginning.

Ah, black is the color of my true love's hair
Her lips are like some rose so fair
She's got the sweetest face and the gentlest hands
And I love the ground whereon she stands

I love my love and well she knows
I love the ground whereon she goes
And how I wish that the day would come
When she and I will be as one

'Cuz black is the color of my true love's hair
Her lips are like some rose so fair
She's got the sweetest face and the gentlest hands
And I love the ground whereon she stands

I go to the Clyde and more than weep
For satisfied I never could keep
I write her a letter just a few short lines
And suffer death ten thousand times

'Cuz black is the color of my true love's hair
Her lips are like some rose so fair
She's got the sweetest face and the gentlest hands
And I love the ground whereon she stands

4. Letters From the Heart

by Peter Bloedel
Jasper-song #2, circa 2005.
From Jason to Jenny.

A long time ago when our love was new
I got little paper packages of words from you
Letters done up like a poet's book
Not even the stamp was overlooked

Precision folds straight line tears
Hand picked paper love and care
No two alike not one the same
Little packs of paper that bore my name

Though it wasn't always clear to me
You were writing down our history
You knew inside our ways would never part
Letters from the heart

Every night when I got home
A Shakespeare sonnet or a Tennyson poem
A Psalm a Proverb or a Gospel verse
With your own voice would be interspersed

You'd send your love your grace
Your smile your eyes your strength your faith
Your words would flood my brain
Little parts of you that bore my name

Though it wasn't always clear to me
You were writing down our history
You knew inside our ways would never part
Letters from the heart

With my eyes I'd retrace every part
Thinking of the hand that left the mark

Letter by letter and day by day
Wealth resided in the things you'd say
Such preciousness surpasses gold
Making warmth out of the cold

I never let those letters go
And more than that I wanted you to know
God bless the day when you became
My beating heart and you bore my name

And now it's all too clear to me
You were writing down our history
I know inside our ways will never part
Letters from the heart
Letters from the heart

5. D&A

by Peter Bloedel
At the time of its conception it seemed like the predominant chords in this one were D & A. The title just stuck.

6. Where You Are Now

by Peter Bloedel
From Pete's play Jam Jar Sonnets.

What did so many years and so many miles ever do to us
Two lives on our own when our world used to be just the two of us
Right now at this moment at this very time
Do you have the same thoughts as mine
My mind keeps wandering, what keeps me wondering where

Where you are, where you are now
Where you are, where you are now
Where you are, who you are, what you are, how you are now

There was a time when you needed a friend who could carry you
The strength of a friend who needed as much just to be with you
Right now at this moment my strengths disappear
The one who needs lifting is here
My mind keeps wandering, what keeps me wondering who

Who you are, who you are now
Who you are, who you are now
Where you are, who you are, what you are, how you are now

My mind keeps on wandering
Right now at this moment in time
Do you have the same thoughts as mine

Our world used to be just the two of us
My strength is gone
The one who needs lifting is here

How can I reach you when you might not be who you were

Where you are, where you are now
Where you are, where you are now
Where you are, who you are, what you are, how you are now

7. The Legend of the Hamburger Eating Woman

by Andy Overn
A true story... honest.

She waddled to the bar during the noon time rush
And the room fell silent with an ominous hush
She had a bun in the oven that was almost due
I handed her a menu and said, "What can I get for you?"

She stabbed her water retaining finger at number three
I said, "It's a five pound burger, eat it all and it's free."
When I said, "Are you sure?" you know she just smiled
Said "I can eat what I want because I'm with child."

And now she wants
The woman wants

I brought her a burger so big that it would choke King Kong
But when I brought her diet coke that thing was already gone
Then like some burger black hole in outer space
That woman absorbed every hamburger near her face

And now she wants
The woman wants
She wanna have
She gotta have

I heard that the baby was born a little later that day
And he made his first appearance in the usual way
But he was covered in special sauce and cheese
And his buns were covered with sesame seeds

At cow sleepovers they stay up late
Telling scary cow stories 'bout their likely fate
But the one that really makes their milk run cold
Is about the burger eating woman and her none year old

And now the story's passed down from father to son
About the burger eating woman and her unborn son
I tell myself that she was just a girl but then
She had the hunger of ten grown men

She wanna have
She gotta have
She wanna have
Gotta have

8. Percival Frog

by Peter Bloedel
A song initially inspired by Pete's Cloutier guitar that has an image of a frog on the headstock.
This song is a superhero/adventure/romantic comedy/bedtime story.

Percival frog went courtin' one fine day
Hippin' and a hoppin' along the way
Little miss Toady his love to see
Was waiting for him beneath the weeping willow tree
She's a beauty
A genuine cutie

The Johnsons took a picnic that very day Lunch on the grass on a Saturday Percy jumped out of the river bed And landed in the middle of the Johnsons' picnic spread Could be trouble Better get out on the double

Percy got excited and he jumped into the pickle jar Hiding as a pickle with the dill weed and the vinegar Mrs. Johnson reached into the jar to pull a pickle out Imagine her surprise to see her pickle squirm about

And Toady called, "Percy, where are you?" "Percy, I love you. I do."

Mrs. Johnson blasted out a scream and then She dropped the frog into the pickle jar again Mr. Johnson got a spoon to fish him out And out came Percival with a dill weed in his mouth He was frightened His muscles were tightened

Percy had to get away he couldn't wait He had a date with Toady and now he was late He jumped off of the spoon high into the air But got tangled in a strand of Mrs. Johnson's hair He felt dazy And Mrs. Johnson went crazy

She threw her hand up to her head to get the froggy out of there Percy grabbed her diamond ring to pull himself out of her hair She saw Percy on her hand and shook her hand with all her might Percy hung on two her ring to save his very life

And Toady called, "Percy, where are you?" "Percy, I love you. I do."

Mrs. Johnson gave her hand a mighty fling Shaking off the frog and her new diamond ring Sending Percival on a twirling flight With a dill weed in his left hand and a diamond in his right He was sailing Arms and legs flailing

Percy made a landing with a bouncing roll And kept his hands and eyes shut tightly through it all He stopped between a green and shady willow limb And opened up his eyes to see his Toady next to him He went to hold her And then he told her

You're a sight for aching eyes and I'm a thankful frog today I've brought for you this dill weed which I think might make a nice bouquet I've got on cologne a blend of pickle juice and willow tree And with this ring I'll ask you do you want to marry me?

And Toady said, "Percy, I love you." "Percy, I'd love to. I do."

9. Masterpiece

by Peter Bloedel
Jasper-song #1, circa 2004.
From Jenny to Jason.

Passion drives at the mind of the man
Passion moves my heart to watch and love and understand
Artistry is a gift from above
It's a gift that's born in love

CHORUS:
I don’t paint or spin a wheel with clay
But I watch you while you do
I find solace more than I can say
To see your vision come to you
And be your masterpiece

A skillful eye the hand will unveil Turpentine and pigment underneath the fingernails Clay dust catches the beams of the sun But the work is never done

[CHORUS]

Colors mix with ideas churning turning round and around
Thoughts hit the canvas like a runner's feet on the ground
A symphony of muses blend to make this work of art
And I can play a part

I don't paint or spin a wheel with clay
But there's something I can do
When I get down on my knees and pray
I ask God that my love for you
will be my masterpiece

10. Let Me Be Your Llama

by Jacob Kempfert
A favorite at gigs and campfires, but alpacas seem pretty indifferent to this one... JEALOUS!

CHORUS:
Let me be your llama
'Cuz you don't have any other friends that are llamas
That I know of

[CHORUS]

Llama is spelled L-L-A-M-A
But it's pronounced llama
The first L is silent, or maybe it's the second L I'm not sure
Oh well, let me be your llama anyway

[CHORUS x 4]

Llamas don't do much but eat all day
But if I were your llama I'd eat all day anyway
Llamas have four legs so I'd grow two more
That's 'cuz two plus two equals four

[CHORUS x 4]

The encyclopedia says that llamas eat a lot
So I guess that I would have to eat a lot in order to be your llama
I looked it up... OK, well maybe I didn't look it up
But, you'll have to trust me anyways, I'm smart

[CHORUS x 4]

Another blast from the past that kinda got a make-over more recently.

12. Mosquito

by Peter Bloedel
From Pete's play Icehouse Madrigals.

Mosquito you bite us
And then you fright us
Encephalitis
Fa-la-la-la-la-la-la
I just can't bear ya
Have to beware of ya
You spread malaria
Fa-la-la-la-la-la-la

CHORUS:
My fleshy body's covered with welts
Fa-la-la-la fa-la-la-la fa-la-la-la-la-la-la
Festering itchy and unsightly welts
Fa-la-la-la fa-la-la-la fa-la-la-la-la-la-la

Mosquito stalkers
In stagnant waters
Need big flyswatters
Fa-la-la-la
For blood you're cruisin'
It's mine you're usin'
Need a transfusion
Fa La

I've such a migraine
From the song you sing
Dipterous whining
Fa-la-la-la-la-la-la
The skin you're probin'
For hemoglobin
Is Minnesotan
Fa-la-la-la-la-la-la

[CHORUS]

People repel ya
With citronella
But I want to kill ya
Fa-la-la-la-la-la-la

13. Our Porch

by Peter Bloedel
For Sarah.

Don't be blue baby I can relate
Put down what you gotta do
All that stuff can wait
Forget all your plans and take my hand

Don't be blue baby
Don't get bogged down
I'll take you to a hideaway
And we won't leave our town

CHORUS:
We ain't got money to spend but we can go out it'll be alright
Go and put that pretty dress on and meet me out back it'll be alright
We'll dance by the blue of the moon to the crickets' singing it'll be alright
It'll be just you and me out here
On our porch

June bugs strummin' out a song on our screen
Fireflies burnin' out just like kerosene
Without any fear
That's why we're here

Time flies now more than we've ever seen
Hang out here and tell me all your dreams

[CHORUS x 2]

Don't be blue baby I can relate
Put down what you gotta do
All that junk can wait

14. The White Passage

by Peter Bloedel
Barren is the sky, but gray and bright
And earth is hidden 'neath a coat that's new.
Crystalline my breath becomes in flight,
And through the chill I make my way to you.
A whitened passage lies before me here.
To journey through it is my heart's design.
But I will not be cold or filled with fear.
Concealed in me is fire. It is mine.
Within those embers loved ones gather 'round,
And fuel the fire burning in my breast.
The celebration of a King is found
A King who's born to give all sinners rest.
Wait for me, my loves. I'm on my way,
To be with you this whitened Christmas day.

15. Traveling Blessing

by Peter Bloedel
In loving memory of Ardelle Bloedel 1930-2012
"May angels line the highways."

There comes a time when revelries must end
And we're blessed we can consider you our friends
Take the time we've had to heart
As we all prepare to part
And may angels line the highways as you go

CHORUS:
Peace be with you
And may all your troubles get behind you too
May angels line the highways
The back roads and the by-ways
Angels line the highways as you go

May God the Father and His only Son
And the Holy Spirit Three in One
Be with you on your way
So we can meet another day
And may angels line the highways as you go

[CHORUS]

Angels line the highways as you go
Angels line the highways as you go
